Troy Public Library Tutor Program

The Troy Public Library tutor program has been serving students in Pike County for over 20 years. In addition to helping children improve and excel academically, it has been our pleasure to offer volunteer opportunities that encourage college students in leadership roles within the community.

In providing tutors for our students at Troy Public Library, our expectations are:

-For all students to spend quality time with a caring adult.

-To provide students with a positive adult/young adult role model.

-To offer tutoring in reading, writing, math, English, science, or history.

-To build positive self-esteem and self-image of oneself and others.

-To teach self-discipline, self-control, and the importance of demonstrating these at

    school.

-To provide an opportunity for students to improve their academic standing in school

    in all subject areas.

Our facility is well-equipped for tutoring. We have quiet rooms for study, as well as open space throughout the library. In our Children’s Department office, our registered tutors will find all of the supplies and resources needed to effectively tutor.

Best of all, this service is provided 100% free of charge to our in-good-standing patrons/their children (first come, first served, dependent on tutor availability).

For information on how children in grades K-12 can enroll in the tutor program, or for Troy University Students interesting in becoming a tutor, please visit the

Children's Department at Troy Public Library, Monday-Friday.
